Ghana Para Athletics
Introduction: Ghana Para Athletics is dedicated to promoting inclusivity and athletic excellence for athletes with disabilities. Our mission is to provide a platform that empowers these athletes, enabling them to compete at both local and international levels. Ghana has a rich history in para-sports, with participation in the Paralympic Games and other global events showcasing our athletes’ talents and resilience.
Brief History: Ghana’s journey in the Paralympic arena began in 1968, and over the years, our athletes have participated in numerous competitions, striving for excellence despite various challenges. Notably, the country made its presence felt at the recent Paris 2024 Paralympics, where athletes demonstrated remarkable performances across various disciplines, garnering national pride and international recognition​
Vision & Mission: Our vision is to develop para-sports in Ghana, ensuring that athletes with disabilities are provided with the necessary resources, training, and opportunities to shine on the world stage. We aim to inspire the next generation of athletes and foster a culture of inclusion and support within society.
Leadership
The leadership of Ghana Para Athletics includes key figures such as Samson Deen, President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Ghana, who has been pivotal in advocating for the rights and recognition of para-athletes. Our partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports reinforces our commitment to providing necessary support and infrastructure for para-sports in the country.
